80% of Content-Creators Won't Last
A brutal look at what content creators are still getting wrong.
Here are two hard truth bombs I’m gonna drop back to back:
OVER 80% OF CREATORS WON´T LAST THE NEXT THREE YERARS.
CREATOR RATES DROPPED 45% LAST YEAR.
These numbers are screaming at us and those that don’t listen will be left behind: The influencer economy is crumbling… like Blake Lively’s career during the “It Ends With Us” press tour. CRUMBLINGGGGGGG. BIG TIME.
But there’s a new path, and only the top 1% of creators are already walking it. They understand that that they can’t just be promoting other brands, they have to actually build their own.
I mean, really think about it. Look at what MrBeast did with Feastables…. or what Emma Chamberlain did with Chamberlain Coffee. They doubled-downed on their defined niche, a loyal audience, and launched products that align perfectly with their brand.
Now compare that to “Erin” who let’s say is a lifestyle influencer with 400K followers. She launched a wellness journal, but it flopped. Why? Because she didn’t have a niche. Her audience liked her, but they didn’t know what she stood for. I get creators like “Erin” alllllll the time doing my private strategy labs. They come to me confused and frustrated… and I sympathize. I get it.
WHY THOUGH?
Here’s the difference between creators who scale and those who stall:
They solve a specific problem for a specific audience.
They own their distribution like email lists. NOT just IG/TikTok followers.
They market in ways that feel human, not salesy or corporate.
Okay okay okay, I know what you’re thinking… “Idalia, are you’re telling me I have to have a product line??? I can’t even get consistent with brand partnership flow, or engagement.”
No gurl.
What I’m saying is before you can even thinkkkkkkk about starting your own line, you have to first conquer the playbook for modern creators. Meaning, ya gotta:
Clarify your niche and positioning so your audience knows exactly what you’re about
Create a clear strategy to scale without burnout
Get out of the content hamster wheel and into a plan that drives results
Know how to pitch yourself with clarity and confidence.
Build systems for partnerships, media kits, and monetization (without relying on hope or hustle).
Grow an owned audience through email (and yes, even SubStack!)
That’s what makes the difference between the “Erins” of the world who come to me for damage control and I have to build their business back up, vs. the Emma Chamberlain’s of the world who had the playbook on lock, and from there she was able to execute her own (coffee) line.
Too many content creators think that just because they have a following, that they can turn that into a product line.
NOPE.
So if you feel like you’re winging it, I’m telling you straight up you’re not building longevity. You will be the 80% of content creators that will fail. POINT BLANK.
