You guys have been LOVING all the info I’m dishing out about Fashion Week, so I wanted to let you in on the top three questions I’ve gotten this past week:

I want to talk about something I see all the freakin’ time. You know, creators who are talented and working hard but still feeling stuck. Still not getting the brand deals they want. Still not getting the invitations they’re craving for Fashion Week.

Okay fam. Let’s have some fun.

I want you to imagine it’s 2017, otherwise known as the “Time before CoVid.”

You just posted your cafe latte shot with the caption “But first, coffee ☕️,” and BOOM! Five brands are in your inbox throwing money, gift cards, and a trip to Tulum because why the f* not?

It surprises me how often I hear creators sighhhhhh about Milan Fashion Week, convinced they don’t stand a chance unless they’ve already got a massive following or a blue check next to their name.

Soooo… Forbes came knocking again this past week and they wanted perspective. They wanted the kind of insight you only get from years spent in the trenches with creators, and top models, and celebrities who are actually moving culture forward.

Tell me if this sounds familiar: you wake up in the morning, and right when you press that button to get your coffee brewing, you grab your phone to “just check in.” And then suddenly (perhaps instantly) your whole life feels like it’s not enough.

When talking to creators aspiring to break into the luxury scene, I always ask them the same question.

“What does luxury mean to you?”

For context, TikTok has been cruisin’ on borrowed time in the states since earlier this year, thanks to the Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act (PAFACA). Signed into law in April 2024, it’s mandating ByteDance (TikTok’s parent company) to either sell TikTok or it gets banned by January 19, 2025.

One of the biggest advantages of being in this industry for over two decades is access. And for creators, access to real-time META updates can be the difference between being ahead of the curve and thriving vs playing catch-up and feeling like your head is barely above water.

Okay okay okay I know this is gonna cause a bit of a stir, but you’re here because I don’t sugarcoat things, right?

Okay good. So let’s talk about something no one wants to admit: Millennial creators are falling apart. And it’s not because they aren’t talented, but simply because the game has changed… and unfortunately some of them haven’t.

It surprises me how often I hear creators get bummed out about New York Fashion Week thinking they don’t have a shot because they don’t have a gazillion followers.

It’s time ya got a little momentum. A lil sumthin’ sumthin’ to keep you motivated and thinking : YES, I CAN DO THIS!

Wanted to take a breather here to talk about the quiet stuff about the creator industry….the part of being a creator that doesn’t make it onto the feed.

Last week my client, Chriselle Lim, announced that Phlur (the fragrance brand she helped revive) has been acquired by TSG Consumer Partners, a private equity firm known for investing in consumer growth brands.

In case you’ve been living under a social media rock (which btw if you are, what a freakin’ blessing!) earlier this year the U.S. government passed a law that could ban TikTok in the United States by September unless its parent company, ByteDance, sells it to an American buyer.

Okay so this is actually good news. The fact that Instagram no longer cares if you have 1,000 followers or 1 million.

Bc yeah, the numbers that used to dictate our online worthiness just lost a whole lotta power.

Listen up familia, there’s a significant IG update rolling out on todayyyyyy, and if you’re a creator, small business, or anyone using the platform professionally, this one’s worth paying attention to.
