Buh Bye: Why the "Fashion Elite" Are Removing Fillers
Buh Bye: Why the "Fashion Elite" Are Removing Fillers
For as long as I can remember, the fashion & beauty industries have been synonymous with the pursuit of perfection. I remember being 8yrs old looking at my mom’s Vogue magazines that were filled with airbrushed models and ads…. page after page of them.
This, of course, was the mere precursor of Instagram’s glassy-eyed aesthetics.
I clearly remember the day when Kylie Jenner admitted to lip fillers. It was on an episode of KUWTK in 2015 (Yes I’ve always watched the show). We’re talking TEN YEARS AGO! I thought to myself, “This is going to mark a shift in our culture’s aesthetic beliefs.” Lo and behold, fillers became the hallmark of “correcting” imperfections and enhancing features. They actually became the norm.
What’s the quote that went viral? You’re not ugly, you’re just poor.
Yeah, that’s as bad of taste as anything I’ve ever heard. But were they “wrong” considering what the beauty standards were? That’s up for moral debate.
Yet recently, an unexpected, but much-needed shift has been sweeping through the world of the “fashion elite.” Celebrities, influencers, and high-profile models are not just pausing their filler treatments, they’re dissolving them entirely.
Finally the forefront of the aesthetic trend is leaning towards a more natural appearance. Think less exaggerated, more effortless…a beauty ethos that aligns with the rise of "quiet luxury" and minimalist fashion trends. Think LINDSAY LOHAN.
