I Have This Whole Thing Prepare For My 41th Birthday

I wanted to do the coolest thing on SubStack and invite y’all to participate. Then life happened, and life has a clever way of pulling us in a thousand different directions.

I’m the gal that color-coordinates my various calendars (one for business, one for personal, one for my clients), that creates detailed to-do lists (written out in one week, one month, quarterly, and yearly formats), that has a fierce determination to conquer it all (because yes, I do want to conquer it all).

I’m also the gal that gets overwhelmed when I have the slightest feeling of falling behind… because “Idalia NEVER falls behind.” (Ha! Joke’s on me.)

So when life gets overwhelming, I tend to be my harshest critic. It’s a narrative in my head telling me I should have done more, been more disciplined, managed my time better.

But What If, Instead of Guilt, I Choose Grace?

We live in a culture that glorifies productivity more than mental-health. It’s the hustle culture that was engrained in me by my immigrant parents. “Do you know HOW LUCKY you are to be in the United States in America? In Cuba… (enter how communism took everything my family had worked so hard to get).”

But we’re aren’t machines.

This also doesn’t mean we’re lazy or uncommitted, it simply means we’re perfectly flawed humans.

So as I celebrate my 41st birthday feeling quite burnt-out and exhausted, I’m reminded to handle it with grace.

Thank you for allowing me the space to not only express business tips, but also my thoughts about my life. Vulnerability and all.
