The Importance of a Re-See
The Importance of a Re-See
Paris Fashion Week is all about the runway shows and presentations… and about the re-sees. So what exactly is a re-see and why are they such a vital part of fashion week?
A “re-see” is just that : you’re re-seeing the clothes and accessories that just went down the runway. This is normally done a day or two after the actual show.
The origin of re-sees is actually two-fold:
One, it’s for buyers of retailers and now online shops to be able to place their orders (mind you, this won’t reach their stores until 4-6 months later as collections are always a season ahead), and the second is for the press (magazines) to get an up-close look of the collection so they can properly write about it.
This is actually my favorite part of fashion week because it’s so personal. It’s a time where I get to connect with my friends of the brands and really hear first-hand how certain garments were made. It’s such a beautiful and intimate experience.
This re-see from Balmain really shows the intricate work behind the collection which flourished with sheeny sheaths and a vibrant array garments. It was floral. It was lively. It was exquisite.
It was even held in the company’s headquarters where Olivier has his offices and where the clothes are actually made.
As Olivier Rousteing said about his show, “Love is complex - every rose, after all, comes with its thorns.”
