How Influencers Get Dressed for Fashion Week
A question I get asked alllll the time is how influencers actually get dressed for fashion week, especially if they are traveling to various cities. Do they travel with all the clothes? Do they buy everything? How does it work?
Normally it’s a mix of three things:
1. Clothes that are lent by the brand (or retailer) to wear to the show and return after
2. Clothes that are gifted by a brand
3. Clothes they actually own (this is usually more when it comes to accessories)
The lent and gifted clothing are sent to the hotel the influencer is staying at, saving them space in their luggage.
A publicist/manager or the influencer themselves is usually the one that connects the influencers with the brands and manages their fashion week from start to finish. I used to do this back when I ran the talent division at Next NYC many moons ago, and that’s why I created one of my best selling courses “How To Get Invited To Fashion Week” because I realized that this information really wasn’t available anywhere else. And although I’m not an influencer, through my relationships with the brands that I have built throughout the years (and thanks to my own PR team), I too am dressed and invited to the shows as a “friend of the house”. One of perks of being an entrepreneur and fashion insider.
An example of this can be seen in my post about CPHFW. See the cover image? The sweater was lent to me by Farm Rio and the pink trousers were also lent to me by Remain Birger Christensen via The Outnet. The purple Loewe bag is mine. I mix and matched two lent items from two different brands plus something I own to create this look.
Or take the all black look, for example: this was gifted by Gestuz and it’s what I wore for their show. The sunglasses from Jimmy Fairly were also gifted. The YSL shoes are my own and the Stand Studio bag was on loan. The coolest necklace from We Wore What that was also gifted completed the look.
